This is really my daily drinker beer these days - the one I always turn to when I just want to have a beer or three without being suprised by anything new. Becks at 4.5? That means that any beer better than Becks is a 5… which if you really drink 365 original beers, I foresee a lot of 5 ratings in the future… Not to badmouth Becks, but perhaps starting lower on the scale would have been more reasonable

I’d agree with you except for the fact that I really like Beck’s - I think I’ve gotten lazy in the past few years and have quit trying to enjoy beer for what it is. Plus - the ratings aren’t really meant to be a completely arbitrary comparison between each of them - it’s much more of a “this is how I feel about this beer at this point in time.” So while Beck’s might be a 4.5 for me now, it could (hopefully) end up a 3 or 3.5 once I remember why I used to really enjoy beer.

Ahh , mate beck’s is actually friking sweet, second only to Stella. Stella is slightly more expensive but it has to be in a bottle or draft. I dont know what types of beer you got over there in the states, but if you can find Ursus, a fine romanian beer I’d highly sugest it.

Beck’s is clearly one of the best beers. The Beck & Co. brewery is owned bu InBev Belgium by the way.

I am with you on this one. Everybody is riding the stella wave but I consistantly make fun of them while drinking Beck’s.
The beer in question is very refreshing and very well balanced and drinkable on a daily basis.
I would like to get my hands some very fresh Becks as I am certain it would be even better

I know exactly what you’re going through. It’s good to re-evaluate your tastes and preferences. I did the same and kept coming back to Yuengling Traditional Lager. It is extremely well rounded - not too heavy, not too light. It’s been a Pennsylvania staple for many years, and I believe they just opened a Brewery in Tampa, Fla.

I have to say Becks is an amazing beer. Exactly as you describe it. A daily drink without any crap. It its what it is and its not trying to be anything else.
As I’ve travelled, I’ve drank all over the world, so I recommend you try:
Zywiec - Polish beer (pronounced Shiv-iets)
Birra Moretti - Italian beer
Asahi - Japanese beer (no idea how its pronounced!)
It might be an idea to put an email address up so people can contact you and mail beers to you, not sure if that would work, but its at least a better way to contact than this comments system!

Nate’s right, Beck’s is a good lager, but once you start hitting the real hard to find stuff, you’ll find the everyday lagers losing points. What other beers do you have planned?
Best thing to do is hit the foreign/import section of liquor stores and focus there. They are good and there are so many different types.

I think you should try to use a different word then “really” you use it at 4x in the first paragraph… nothing wrong with this it just would flow better if you changed a few of them up.

Can I ask why you are doing this since “I’ve gotten lazy in the past few years and have quit trying to enjoy beer for what it is.” Coming from someone that has drank a fair share of German beer Becks is definitely low on the quality scale.

Becks? Yikes. I would suggest as a common yet overall better quality German beer: Warsteiner.

I’d highly recommend that you try some of the beers produced by the Rogue brewery in Portland. Their Imperial Pilsner is hard to beat, and they, along with Stone, produce a wide variety of very tasty beers. If you plan on drinking 365 different beers, you might need to make some travel plans. (Hint: Bellingham and Seattle, Washington are the places to go.)

I think you’re right about drinking Becks again afterwards - I already see that my beer tastes are changing back to when I first discovered heavily-hopped beers. I think the real trick is enjoying both drinking beer and not spending too much time thinking about drinking beer and enjoying the time spent with friends.
