Belgium may be the point of origin of this beer, but it’s a damn pilsner. Not a bad one, per se, but still pilsner-y.  Really, I’d rather have a Beck’s, but Stella seems to be showing up a lot of places these days, so it’s hard to complain. I really do appreciate having something around that’s pretty tasty, but I do wish it’d swing more towards the beers I like more. It’s the same basic flavors as a pilsner - light body, mild-to-medium levels of hops (Saaz, I think) - plus this weird grassy flavor/smell. Interesting, but nothing special. For the price premium, you’re better off just getting something cheaper that’ll end up tasting better. But if it’s the only choice around it’s not that bad.

I drank this one in all of about 5 minutes - it was the first beer I had in an place I’d never been before when I was meeting people I’d either never met or had only met once. Really, the whole purpose was to drink something as quickly as possible in order to get over the normal “being in a new place and meeting new people” vibe. I really should have just gotten something as cheap as possible in such a situation - that’s what I’ll go with next time. Five bucks for a pint of beer on tap - it really should either be something rare and weird or interesting at that point. I blame Siesta Key’s swanky-ness, though cheap beer pitcher prices were totally reasonable (I’ll get to that one next).
