If you start running out of beers to drink, there are lots of small microbreweries in the NW (im in Oregon) and that would prove to be an awesome source for lots of unique and tasty beers!

This is avery noble quest you are embarking on, my friend. I, myself, have done this very same thing about 2 years ago; it is amazing how your tastes will change in such a short time. I used to despise hops, but have developed a bit of a taste for it; one of my faves is Bell’s Two Hearted. I have also developed a serious affection for Belgians. The local pub here in St.Paul has Konig’s Hoeven Quadruple on tap. Very nice, very dark. Not like a Stella at all, which tastes like an MGD in my opinion.
In time, mostly because I found myself surrounded by beer brewing hobbyists, I now have a garage full of beer making equipment as well.
It can be a very slippery slope indeed, but paved the entire way with beer.

Hey good new years resolution, I find beer to be a surreal experience depending upon the quality of the brew of course. Up here in Alaska we have tons of microbreweries if your interested, you should try some beer from the Moose’s Tooth brewery and the Midnight Sun Brewery.

Since you’ve got a looong list of options, I’ll put in a plug for some of my favorite beers for the cold days of winter, and a bonus selection of some others for warmer days later in the year;
Winter (thick, Belgian/Belgian influenced)
* Delirium _Tremens_ (skip Nocturnm) This is hands down my favorite beer on the planet. It also lives up to it’s name, so watch it and have a designated driver! Great with cheese or all by itself.
* Unibroue Terrible (they kid! I would not turn away any beer they make, though this one and Ephemere are my current favorites)
Summer/Fall (lighter mouth feel, rich flavor)
* Unibroue Ephemere (get the apple not the cranberry — cranberry is just OK where apple is a treat)
* Ommegang (almost any; most are good with cheese. Haven’t tried Whitt.)
Stouts (anytime!)
* Mothers Milk (Keegan) The best stout I’ve ever had without a doubt. The head is unreal and lives up to the name. I am sad for a few minutes a month just because they don’t ship this to my area (yet). Guinness (properly poured and served) is just OK compared to this.
IF you are lucky and can find a place in Florida with any of these on tap, go there. Chances are, you won’t as most are regional and are just now getting wider distribution.
* Keegan is in Kingston NY and is not usually distributed.
* Unibroue is French Canadian but is getting some distribution in NE and Mid-E US (VA & MD).
* Delirium Tremens is Belgian style and made in Belgium … though it is on tap in a few places.
Note on DT bottles: Check the bottle carefully. If it shows any sign of abuse or of leaking … DO NOT BUY IT. This one is fantastic when fresh and booring to nasty when mishandled. It is easy to get a bad bottle of this in the US. Do not get the 4 pack if bumpers are available. Skip both if either has been abused in the store selling it … as that shipment was probably ruined.

I just had to post a comment.
This is ridiculous. I thought this was a good idea, but I didn’t realize how many people would love it. Although this means that you’re actually going to have to follow through, and I’m going to have to drink a lot of beer this year.
I ctrl+F’ed you, and you didn’t use “really” once in the Hop Hog entry. Really.

Me too, I’m going to recommend the Unibroue beers. The selection of strong beer is nice (Maudite, Fin du monde, etc).

May I suggest Boulevard, a native brewery of Kansas City and one of the finest small beer companies in the Midwest. They sell 4 varieties, Wheat, Pale Ale, Bully Porter and Stout year round, in addition to 4 seasonal varieties. All are pretty good. Check out www.boulevard.com

The best beer I’ve stumbled upon is Erdinger (see link). I went for a 20 mile walk one day, stopped into a village pub on the way home and was lured by the huge, slender, silvery pump. It’s a wheat beer — I didn’t realise when I ordered as I don’t normally like them, but this is a real nice one. Go for the light coloured version (with fine yeast), the darker Erdingers aren’t half as nice in my opionion.
Good luck on your quest.

Dann, you’re the mann. I’m a beer fan from Florida too, and I might even be a bigger Gator fan. GO GATORS tonight! Just wanted to say good luck, and you’ve inspired me to start my own quest. I’ve given you credit and linked you in my blog, which narrates my own brew journey. Check it out:

Hey, one great thing about your beer review, is at least there’s a standard to compare with [Beck’s]. Now, if I could find a blog whose standard was Samuel Smith’s Pale Ale.
Keep up the good work.

Cheers to ya. I am currently enjoying my favorite bottle of beer. May I suggest Fat Tire, a nice amber ale produced in Fort Collins, CO at the New Belgium brewery.
