I really don’t have much to say about this beer - I mean, I like it. It’s not a bad beer and when it’s the best option on tap it’s the best option on tap. I’m not going to go out of my way in life to seek out the world’s greatest Harp, but it is pretty tasty overall. I certainly like it a hell of a lot more than Bass - which is nice because they’re often served on tap at the same sort of places. And it does make a tasty black and tan. (edit - while I know the traditional B&T is Guinness and Bass, it does tend to depend on the bar you go to. See here) It has a better mouthfeel than Bass and a much better aftertaste. Perhaps it’s just a little lighter overall and that’s why I like it - but I really do believe it’s something in the aftertaste. Good job, Harp. People think of you and Bass as nearly the same thing - and when you’re compared you come out head and shoulders above the other lager majorly exported beer from the British Isles.

  1. Agree wholeheartedly, I enjoy Harp but dont go out of my way for it. We can get it in bottles up here (greetings from Newfoundland) chilled in the local liquor store. I usually will go for an Irish ale like Caffrey’s or Kilkenny when I am looking for a social beer and not looking to get sloshed…when sloshing time comes, cant beat Moosehead Dry, good ol’ 5.5%!

  2. And you stuck your nose into the Winter Ale today. The Sam Adams, not the Sierra. And then I drank the Anchor Steam Christmas. mmmmm…

  4. I thought you were very generous there giving Harp 3.5 out of 5. Here in Dublin you can’t really get Harp anymore. It’s a big hit up in Northern Ireland, and look that happened up there!!

  5. You’d benefit from some beer humor… and some buddry.com. I recommend trying the Dogfish Head 120 IPA or at least the 90. Oh, and grab some Lindeman’s Lambic too. Tastiest lambic in the world.

  6. Harp and Guiness make a Half and Half. A Black and Tan is Bass and Guiness.

  7. You’ve inspired me to take on this challenge. Though I will be trying a new beer each day. Good luck in your journey, and see that I have linked you in my blog. Maybe you can do the same?

    Cheers, Z

  11. What is the association between Harp and Bass? One is a lager, one is an ale, and they are from entirely different countries.
