Smithwick's is on tap at a local Irish restaurant near me and I love it. Just be sure everyone is pronouncing it correctly: it's "Smitticks" - there's no "th" or "w" sound! :)

I agree that Smithwicks is nicely sweet without too much bitterness. And I definitely agree that it tastes great with food. But my personal knock on it is that it always manages to make me feel much thirstier. It happens to me with some beers that have just the right amount of malt or wheat. With food, even with salty food, the thirstiness thing counterintuitively doesn't happen. I don't know if you manage to break beers down into these categories, Dann, but Smithwicks definitely falls into my "snack beer" or "food beer" category. If I have it at a bar and they don't have peanuts, pretzels or popcorn, I wind up ordering a water with it. Still tastes great, though.
