This one was going to be an interesting one for me. I generally love India Pale Ales and can take or leave Browns. I’ve really enjoyed almost all of the Dogfish Head beers that I”ve had in the past, though, so I was looking forward to this one quite a bit.

What came out of the bottle was a beautifully dark chocolate/copper ale with a huge beige head that quickly settled down to a light spread on the top of the beer. The smell coming off of the beer almost resembled a fine port rather than a beer - deep and smokey with a hint of spice. And the taste - pretty damn wonderful. There’s the brown ale sweetness, a darker maltiness, hints of coffee and chocolate and then the hops shining through the whole of the beer. This is a beer that does something different (combining two rather different beer styles) and does it very well. It has a full mouthfeel and a very aromatic aftertaste. I really like this beer - hopefully I can find it somewhere closer to home than Tampa in the future. Plus, it’s not fooling around when it comes to the alcohol content
