I know that the whole organic movement had come to craft beer in the past few years, but this is the first time I’ve tried one. On the whole it’s a reasonably good ESB - good golden-brown color, small off-white head that lingers for quite a while and a boquet full of hops. Those hops show up again on the first sip - right up front and then again towards the end of the sip. Lots of malty flavor with some sweetness and even a little bit of fruit (apple?) that shows up at the end.

As for the organic nature of it - I can’t tell a damn thing one way or the other. But I suppose it’s good for me, or good for the environment, or good for somebody’s pocketbook. I guess I can get away with drinking a lot of it by just claiming I was helping out America, right?

  1. Dear Dann, Thanks for trying a Lakefront Brewery Organic ESB, Extra Special Bitter. Lakefront Brewery was the first brewery in the United States to bottle an organic beer. We’ve been producing certified organic beer in addition to Beer Line organic Barley wine for over 11 years now. We use 100% organic ingredients including organic hops which are rare and expensive unlike the ersatz organic beer produced by Anheuser Busch that they are trying to foist on the unsuspecting public. Shame. TRUE organic beer is good for farmers, good for the earth and good for beer drinkers. Eliminating the pounds of pesticides used to produce traditional beers goes a long way to improving our well being, don’t you think? Doing well by doing good is an important part of the Lakefront Brewery philosophy. We also try to diminish our impact on natural resources by using as many locally sourced materials as possible. Please continue to enjoy our other beers including our groundbreaking New Grist gluten-free beer.
