Maybe it’s just that I’ve been drinking middle-of-the-road beers quite a bit recently, but this one has really made me perk up. The sad thing is, I think it’s more from the lack of a nasty aftertaste than the actual taste of the beer itself. Not to say this isn’t a reasonable American Pale Ale - it is that. It’s just that it’s lacking a lot of the power that I would expect from this style of beer. The flavors are all there - good medium maltiness, hopping that’s reminiscent of the Northwest and a good medium mouthfeel that sits nicely on each sip. There just needs to be more, especially in the hopping. American Pales always push some boundaries in this category, and Casco Bay’s just not doing that here.
