I’d had this beer sitting in the beer fridge since the Stout Session way back at the beginning of March. I figured that I had to eventually drink it. Glad that I did.

It wasn’t really what I expected. It looked normal enough for a stout - darker than sin, thick dark-brown head that settles down over the course of a couple of minutes. However, it’s a hell of a lot smoother than I was expecting. The past few stouts I’ve had have been much more of the “hit you over the head with roasted flavor” types than this much smoother style - and I have to say that I really do like the smoother ones. It’s something that you can sit around and drink and enjoy without wrinkling up your face at every sip. Not that it’s never a desired sort of feeling - there are times that I’m all for the idea - it’s just that I generally want something I can drink during a poker game or while talking with friends rather than “serious beer drinking.”

It’s smooth and somewhat creamy with small hints of chocolate and coffee from the roasted malts. Very little bitterness and in this particular beer that works really well.
