Vintage 07. Pours out darker than sin with a thick, coffee-like head. Lots of coffee in the nose along with quite a bit of sweetness. There’s also lots of coffee and chocolate in the taste. I was expecting more hops for an “Imperial” style beer, but it’s pretty good and balanced, especially for such a high-alcohol beer. It could be a little less sweet, but it works well as a good old-fashioned sippin’ beer. Brewed as a tribute to the late Hunter S. Thompson, I’m all for throwing a buck towards the Hunter monument. Much less sweet than many other brown ales I’ve had in the past, this one sits pretty well on the tongue. I’m drinking it from the bottle since I’m not at home and the only option of glassware here is plastic cups - so I’ve no idea what it looks like. Coffee and caramel with a nice balance of hops, the medium mouthfeel fits it very well. The Brooklyn brewery has always been a favorite of mine, partially because when I first started truly getting “into” beer I was living in New York City and this was available everywhere. This is a good, solid offering from the boys in Boston. Very dark reddish-brown with a creamy light-brown head. Lots of caramel in the nose. The honey shines through in the taste, but still lots of good porter flavors as well (caramel, chocolate, malt) along with some vanilla. Not very bitter, but very little aftertaste as well.
